EVANSTON (CBS) — The city of Evanston is trying to follow in the footsteps of the White House and Chicago’s City Hall: Evanston’s mayor will conduct a Twitter town hall meeting in two weeks.

On Feb. 15, Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will tweet responses to questions, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Coordinator of Evanston’s first Twitter Town Hall Meeting is Adelita Hernandez, Citizen Engagement Coordinator for Evanston.

“We always try to find new ways to engage our residents across different demographics, and we recognize that social media – Twitter and Facebook – are very important ways to do that,” Hernandez said.

Evanston has more than 2,800 followers on Twitter – and it follows 255, including 1986 Northwestern graduate Stephen Colbert.

“A lot of times you’ll have things that affect the university, and he is an alumni,” Hernandez said. “He is interesting.”
