(WSCR) Lance Briggs has made it known he’s unhappy with his contract.
Before the start of the 2008 season, Briggs signed a six-year, $36 million contract extension with Bears, but now, he wants more money. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Tribune joined The Boers and Bernstein Show to discuss the possibility of trading Briggs to the New York Giants in exchange for Osi Umenyiora.READ MORE: Suburban Family Still In Shock After They Hired Home Improvement Contractor Via HomeAdvisor, Only For The Contractor To Smash Up Their Property
“I’ve spoken to some people and it’s something that does make sense,” Jensen said. “Again, there aren’t many player for player trades, but if you look at my reasoning, there are a lot of reasons why this would somewhat make sense. The reality is that the Bears know that Lance Briggs wants more money, just because there’s a new general manager, that doesn’t mean anything is going to change. It’s just going to embolden Lance Briggs and his agent Drew Rosenhaus. Then, you look at the investment they’ve made at that position. Brian Urlacher probably is going to have to have his contract addressed probably before the season starts. If you’re choosing between the two, I don’t think there’s any question that you’re going with the face of the franchise.”

Jensen said the fact that the Giants are so deep at the defensive end position makes the trade a possibility.MORE NEWS: MISSING: Kaylee Sutton, 15, Of Lincoln Park
“With that said, the New York Giants have a pleathura of defensive lineman,” he said. “As well as Osi Umenyiora has played over the last month, he’s expendable. They can’t afford to bring him back. Jason Pierre-Paul is the next thing. He is like the next hot, young defensive end in the NFL. So (Umenyiora) is expendable to them. The Giants have him under contract for two more years. If you look at it, their salaries kind of match up. … Osi would be a good fit for the Bears and Lance would fill a huge need for the Giants.
