Chicago Police Nab Bank Robbery Suspects

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Five suspects were in custody Friday after a bank was robbed in the Portage Park neighborhood and police pursued a purported getaway vehicle.

Two men robbed the Chase Bank branch at 4854 West Irving Park Road around 1:30 p.m., the FBI said in a statement. A short distance away, Chicago police stopped a vehicle that matched the description of a getaway vehicle that had been relayed by a witness, authorities said.

A total of five people, including three who were waiting in a car, were taken into custody.

The robbery was still under investigation.

The two men who actually entered the Chase Bank branch Friday are suspected of robbing the Chase Bank branch at 1230 North Milwaukee Ave. on two prior occasions.

No injuries were reported during Friday's incident, the FBI said. One bystander, Tom Myers, described how he helped pin down one of the suspects before police swarmed the bank robber.

"I don't know if he thought I was a cop or what have you, but he put his hands out and I stepped on both of his hands," Myers told CBS 2.
