Report: Cubs May Be Closing In On Jorge Soler

(WSCR) According to a report, the Cubs may be on the verge of signing 19-year-old old Cuban prospect Jorge Soler for $27 million.

The report indicates Soler is often compared to his countryman Yoenis Cespedes, who signed with the A's this offseason. The difference, however, is age. Cespedes is 26, while Soler is only 19 and could be developed in the Cubs' organization.

Here's a description of Soler from Baseball America's Jim Callis: :Six-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Soler has explosive bat speed and power potential. He also has plus speed and arm strength and profiles as a classic right fielder, though he runs well enough to play center. Because of his youth, he'll need some time to develop, but he should be worth the wait."
