1 Hurt When Taxi Flips Over At O'Hare Terminal 1

UPDATED 03/08/12 1:03 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A passenger was injured Thursday morning when a taxi flipped over, on the upper-level roadway for Terminal 1 at O'Hare International Airport.

The wreck happened around 5:30 a.m., Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride told the Sun-Times Media Wire. The Dodge Caravan taxi hit the median strip and flipped over on its side, the wire reported.

CBS 2's Derrick Young reported nearly an hour later, the upper-level roadway, which is used for pickup and dropoff, was still blocked off.

One person was taken from the scene to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, the Fire Department told the wire. That person was a 47-year-old woman who was the taxi's passenger, and who reportedly suffered minor injuries, police told the wire.

The taxi was being driven by Syed Ibrahim, 53, who refused medical attention, the wire reported. He received three traffic tickets in connection to the accident with his taxi, which was leased by KCC Cab Co., police told the wire.

Even though the roadway was blocked, the crash did not have any major impact on travelers, Pride told the wire.

Terminal 1 is used primarily by United Airlines, along with Nippon Airways and Lufthansa.
