Hawks' Smith Out For Season With Hernia, Hip Injury

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Blackhawks forward Ben Smith will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hernia and a cartilage tear in his hip.

Team physician Dr. Michael Terry said Thursday that Smith will undergo surgery in one week to repair a right hip labral tear and a hernia.

"We anticipate a full recovery in approximately 16 weeks," Terry said.

Smith, 23, recorded two goals in 13 games with the Blackhawks this season. He had not played with the Blackhawks since January, but has recorded 15 goals for the team's minor league affiliate in Rockford, good for 3rd place in the American Hockey League.
