Lombard Co-Workers Win $1 Million In Powerball

LOMBARD, Ill. (CBS) -- A group of co-workers is $1 million richer after buying a Powerball ticket at a 7-Eleven in Lombard.

As WBBM Newsradio's Brandis Friedman reports, Marty Carver, 25, was back in the 7-Eleven Wednesday purchasing the next round of Powerball tickets for himself and 11 advertising agency co-workers.

He and the rest of the group, nicknamed "The Dirty Dozen," are still feeling lucky after winning $1 million playing Powerball.

"You can't really explain the emotion. We've said it a bunch of times – we obviously wish we had a camera to capture everyone's faces when they first found out," Carver said.

Carver is the one who purchases the tickets for the group the day before each Powerball drawing at the same 7-Eleven on Lloyd Avenue in Lombard. Each person puts in $2.

The group got five numbers right in the late February drawing. They didn't get the Powerball, but split 12 ways, they each took home $83,333.33 before taxes.

"My name's Lynette, and I'm going on a fantastic shopping spree," another co-worker said.

Other plans include paying off student loans, buying a flat-screen TV for one of their fathers, buying a home, and going on vacation.

The group has been playing together since October 2011. Their winning numbers were 07-17-17-39-51. The Powerball that they did not get was 32.

The store will also receive a $10,000 bonus – or 1 percent of the price – for selling the winning ticket. Store owner Chiraq Patel tells the Illinois Lottery he excited that his store was the sight of such a big win.
