Man Gets Nine Years For Sexually Abusing Young Girl

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) - A southwest suburban man who admitted in court Tuesday that he molested a young girl in 2006 was sentenced to nine years in prison.

A jury had previously convicted 53-year-old Douglas K. Alsup of Joliet of three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, court records show, and Judge Robert Livas in September 2008 sentenced him to 27 years in prison.

But the Illinois Appellate Court reversed his conviction last year because of a problem with a jury instruction.

Prosecutors have said he sexually abused the girl, who turned 8 the year of the abuse, in Joliet.

Alsup appeared Tuesday before Will County Judge Sarah Jones and pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, and prosecutors agreed to drop the other two.

He must serve 85 percent of the sentence and register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, though he has already spent close to five years behind bars for the crime.
