JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) – Police say a west suburban man visited the south suburbs on Tuesday afternoon hoping to have sex with a teenage girl.

Instead Michael J. Zimmerman, 27, of Aurora found himself in the Will County Jail facing a charge of traveling to meet a minor, Sun-Times Media is reporting.

“He thought he was meeting a child,” Tinley Park police Cmdr. Pat McCain said, “but he was meeting us.”

The girl Zimmerman thought he was chatting with online turned out to be a Tinley Park cop, McCain said.

Police found Zimmerman during an online search for Internet predators, and McCain said the investigation is ongoing.

Zimmerman was ordered held on $50,000 bond Wednesday in Will County Court.
