Rivals.com ranks Butler as a three-star recruit and lists him as having scholarship offers from the likes of Penn State, Michigan, Northwestern, Nebraska and Wisconsin amongst many other east coast schools.

Butler figures to help fill the gap left by Tee Shepard’s departure earlier this year.  Shepard was a five-star cornerback who signed his letter of intent with the Irish before leaving school in February.
