Officer Wounded When Her Own Gun Accidentally Fires

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An off-duty Chicago Police officer was wounded Thursday night when her gun accidentally fired.

Police say the female officer was in the 2100 block of East 71st Street when her gun went off around 7:20 p.m. Thursday.

She was hit in the right leg, but the injury was not life-threatening, Alfaro said. She was taken Stroger Hospital of Cook County for treatment.

It remains unclear what caused the weapon to fire, and what the officer was doing when it fired.
