EAST DUNDEE, Ill. (STMW) - A woman was killed and a motorcyclist was critically hurt Wednesday in a crash in northwest suburban East Dundee.

The crash happened about 9:05 a.m. on Route 25 at Balmoral Drive, police said.

Donna Fritz, 67, was in a 2000 Mitsubishi turning left onto Route 25 when a northbound motorcycle crashed into her driver's side door, according to a release from East Dundee police.

Witnesses told authorities the motorcyclist -- 60-year-old Patrick McDougall -- was driving the posted speed limit and had no time to react when the Mitsubishi suddenly appeard in the roadway, the release said.

Fritz, of the 800 block of Bannock in East Dundee, was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates where she was pronounced dead at 9:51 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

McDougall, of the 200 block of Caddy Avenue in Carpentersville, was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin in "critical but stable" condition, the release said.

Route 25 was shut down between Routes 72 and 68 for about a half hour as authorities responded.
