Temperatures To Drop Through Afternoon; Chilly Weekend On Tap

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The already chilly temperatures will be falling through the afternoon as a cold front passes through, to the point where the mercury won't even crack the 50-degree mark on Saturday.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says the high for the day Friday was 50 degrees, and has already come and gone. As of 11:20 a.m., the temperature had already dropped to 44 degrees at O'Hare and Midway international airports, and 41 in Waukegan.

A sustained wind was blowing at 16 mph at O'Hare, 12 mph at Midway, and 17 mph at Kankakee. The wind has been from the northwest, and is causing the temperature to plummet.

Rain has been falling over Northwest Indiana, but Illinois has been dry, albeit overcast. After a hint of rain on the South Side and in the south suburbs, skies will likely clear later in the day – first to the west, and later to the east.

But the temperature won't be rising. The overnight low is only 39, and the high for Saturday is a mere 49 with mostly sunny conditions. The high for Sunday is only 52.

But next week, the temperatures will begin to rise again – 58 Monday, 68 Tuesday, 70 Wednesday, and 63 Thursday.
