Sister Of Missing Man Hires Private Investigator

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The sister of John Spira, the west suburban man who disappeared more than five years ago, says she's so frustrated at the pace of the investigation that she's taken matters into her own hands.

From day-one after John Spira disappeared in February 2007, his sister Stephanie McNeil has been vocal - seeking help from law enforcement - and media - to help find the brother she believes was murdered.

Now, because she says she's frustrated at the lack of progress by the DuPage County Sheriff's office, she's hired a private investigator.

"Because nothing's being done," she said. "Because it's been five years and things that should've been done five years ago still haven't been done."

Matthew Hale is a former police officer - now private investigator - hired by McNeil.

"The person I'm most interested in speaking to right now is Heather," Hale said. "And that's the daughter of John's former wife."

John Spira's former wife is now dead. Hale believes the daughter may know something.

WBBM Newsradio has asked the DuPage County Sheriff's office for comment.
