State Investigating Neglect Allegation In South Side Baby's Death

CHICAGO (STMW) - State authorities are investigating an allegation of neglect in connection with the death of a 9-month-old South Side boy.

Ravin Reed was found unresponsive on a bed at his home in the 8300 block of South Kingston Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital at 4:28 a.m.

Officials are investigating an allegation of neglect against the boy's mother in connection with his death, Department of Children and Family Affairs spokesman Jimmy Whitelow said.

DCFS has had no prior contact with the family, Whitelow said. Two other children live in the home, but it wasn't immediately clear whether they had been removed as of Wednesday night.

Police had no immediate information about the boy's death.
