Man Bound, Beaten, Suffocated At NW Side Home

Updated 05/13/12 - 3:37 p.m.

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was beaten and suffocated after two men bound him and two women in his Northwest Side apartment, then ransacked the home early Sunday.

The two men had apparently been invited into the apartment in the 4500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, and did not force their way inside, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

While inside the apartment, at approximately 1:22 a.m., they bound the 43-year-old man and two women, police said. They then began to beat up the man.

Marek Kaczmarczyk, of the 4500 block of Milwaukee Avenue was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy Sunday found that Kaczmarczyk had been suffocated and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

The two men ransacked the apartment and fled. Neither woman was injured, police said.

Though a motive for the slaying was unclear, the two suspects apparently knew the man they killed, police said.

Police couldn't immediately say what may have been taken from the home, or whether a weapon was used.

Area North detectives are investigating.
