Report: Yankees, Red Sox Interested In Garza

(CBS) The New York Yankees need starting pitching depth and they are interested in the Cubs' Matt Garza, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

The Red Sox also could be in play for Garza, according to the report, creating a nice bidding war between the two rivals that would benefit the Cubs.

The Yankees prefer Garza over other possible trade targets -- namely Ryan Dempster and the Brewers' Zach Greinke and Shaun Marcum -- because of his experience in the American League. Greinke has experience in the A.L., but the Yankees are concerned about how he would handle New York, according to the report.

If a trade for Garza doesn't work out, the Yankees could go after Houston's Wandy Rodriguez, who the team pursued last season.
