Gas Prices Dropping Modestly In Illinois

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It may just be pennies, but the last several weeks have seen some reductions in gas prices in Illinois.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, AAA says last month, gas prices were down 18 cents per gallon for regular unleaded in Illinois, to $3.91 per gallon. Prices in Northwest Indiana were also down, averaging $3.91 per gallon.

Motorist Brian Lundy has noticed.

"A little bit, yes," he said at a gas station in Oak Lawn. "I'm excited. That's why I'm here."

But even saving a little bit more than $3.50 on 20 gallons of gas isn't going to put anyone on easy street, which is why Lundy says he is still trying to keep his driving to a minimum.

"I've still got to save," he said. "I'm not sure when they're going to go up again."

The cheapest gas in Illinois right now is in Champaign County, where regular unleaded is averaging $3.62 per gallon.
