NeoCon Shows Off New Phone Booth For Cell Phones

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Wednesday is the last day of NeoCon at the Merchandise Mart - the event where manufacturers show off everything for office interiors.

WBBM's Steve Miller visited to see what's new.

A lot of offices don't offer much privacy, but a Belgium-based company is giving workers their own little piece of peace and quiet. It's called the BuzziHood – something of a combination of wall-mounted phone booth and Get Smart's cone of silence.

"The BuzziHood, which is our phone booth, is really derived from the public phone cells, which we don't see in the streets anymore," said Daniel Verlooven, European sales director for BuzziSpace.

The BuzziHood provides the user with an "autistic cocoon," allowing them to talk on their cell phone in peace and quiet, even in noisy surroundings.

It also prevents others outside the hood from hearing the user's conversation.

Verlooven said Facebook and Google have recently bought BuzziHoods for their offices.

BuzziSpace also makes a BuzziHub – canopied semi-enclosed couches that face each other, for conferences.
