UPDATED 06/20/12 9:49 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities have located and apprehended a prisoner shortly after he escaped from Stroger Hospital of Cook County Wednesday morning.
The Illinois Department of Corrections says the suspect, Alex Bell, 23, walked out of the hospital and disappeared.
Bell was a resident of the Crossroads Adult Transition Center halfway house, and was being escorted to the hospital when he escaped.
Corrections officers were joined by U.S. Marshals in searching for Bell, whom the Department of Corrections characterized as a "low level offender."
Corrections Department records indicate that he was sentenced to six years in prison last year for burglarizing a home on May 27, 2011.
