Man Kills Self After Fatally Shooting Girlfriend In Carpentersville

CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (STMW) - A 39-year-old man shot his 39-year-old girlfriend, then took his own life outside a friend's home less than a half hour later Friday night, police said.

According to reports, at 9:39 p.m. Friday police received a call about a domestic situation along the zero block of Pueblo Road that might involve a gun. Officers arrived on the scene to find the woman, who had been shot twice, dead in her car, which was parked along the street.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of family, police said.

At 10:06 p.m. police were called to a home along the 1500 block of Alameda Drive. The man who called told police his friend, Anthony Rodriguez, had driven to the caller's home and told him what had happened. The man thought he had convinced Rodriguez to turn himself in for the murder, police said.

When two officers arrived Rodriguez, whose last known address was on Tecumseh Drive in Lake in the Hills, was in front of the Alameda Drive home. Police said Rodriguez took his handgun, then shot himself under his chin. Paramedics took Rodriguez to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead a short time thereafter.

Police said the matter remains under investigation.
