Extreme Heat Spurs Rush For Air Conditioner Repairs

CHICAGO (CBS) -- When temperatures get extremely hot, as they have for the last several days, something else goes up too -- calls to air conditioner repair companies.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, Gina Ames, office manager for Sub Zero Refrigeration in Midlothian says, "Even though they're calling you today, they want you yesterday."

Air conditioning technician and estimator Larry Skarr braces for a rush of business when hot weather is going to hit.

"The minute we see the forecast and know it's going to be 90s or upper…we're geared up and ready to go", Skarr said.

New homeowner Michael Migler is happy he called to have his air conditioning fixed in Oak Forest today.

He said it "felt like it was 100 in the house, 100 outside, just no where to go -- so, totally unbearable."

The 27-year old homeowner says it's been so hot in his house recently that he has been spending nights at his parents' home because they have air conditioning.
