Traveling Salesman Accused Of Molesting Girls, 10 And 11, In Hotel Pool

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (CBS) -- Authorities say a traveling salesman from Georgia lied and said he was a lifeguard, all so he could molest two young girls and a grown woman in the middle of a hotel swimming pool near O'Hare International Airport.

The Chicago Tribune says Charles Smith, 55, of the 1300 block of Howard Way in Lawrenceville, Ga., now stands charged with predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. In Rolling Meadows Court on Wednesday, Judge Jill Cerone set his bond at $200,000 and ordered that he have no contact with anyone under 18, according to the Daily Herald.

This past Saturday, Smith was staying at the Ramada O'Hare hotel, at 1600 Oakton St. in Elk Grove Village, when he decided to take a dip at the pool, according to published reports. He came up to the two girls, ages 10 and 11, and told them he was a lifeguard and wanted to give them swimming lessons, the Daily Herald reported.

The girls told police Smith touched them in appropriately, and at least one of them swatted his hand away multiple times, the Daily Herald reported.

The two girls, one of whom was at the hotel a birthday party for another child, did not know Smith, the Daily Herald reported.

Smith also groped a 27-year-old woman whom he also told he was a lifeguard, the Tribune reported.

He is due back in court on Aug. 10, reports say.
