Des Plaines Mayor: Hart, Schaffner & Marx Should Make 2014 Olympic Uniforms

DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan has a suggestion for the next Olympics in 2014 –have Hart, Schaffner & Marx make those uniforms at its Des Plaines factory.

As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Marsett reports, in 2008, then-President-elect Barack Obama revealed Hart, Schaffner & Marx was his preferred brand, a plug that that put the brand in the lime light, the Daily Herald reported.

President Obama also wore a Hartmarx suit at his inauguration.

This year's Team USA Olympic uniforms are being made in China. Ralph Lauren and his American-based company Polo designed the red, white and blue outfits, but outsourced production of the clothing.

But Lauren, the official outfitter has promised that the uniforms will be made in the USA for the 2014 Winter Games.

Mayor Moylan says Hart, Schaffner & Marx is the answer, and is urging Lauren to "make a commitment now," the Daily Herald reported.

He said Hartmarx already produces a line of sportcoats, jackets and pants that would be perfect for Olympic athletes, the Daily Herald reported.
