Six Lake County Stores Busted For Selling Synthetic Pot

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- Several small north suburban stores were selling more than beer and snacks, according to Lake County authorities, who busted six for dealing in synthetic marijuana, and also found the real thing, and even heroin during their raids.

The Lake County Sheriff's Special Investigations Unit wrapped up the six-month investigation nicknamed Operation Log Jam by executing warrants or conducting bust buys at six stores, seizing drugs, weapons and cash, and arresting four people in the operation aimed at the sale of K-2, or synthetic marijuana.

The stores targeted, according to a release from the sheriff's office, included:

— Waukegan Liquors at 2827 Belvidere Rd. in Waukegan, where 15,860 grams of K-2 were found, along with 4 grams of heroin, 6 grams of cannabis, and 4 semi-automatic pistols. Also seized were a 2007 Acura TL and $59,664 in cash.

— Ma & Pa's Grocery at 37737 Greenbay Rd. in Beach Park, was raided on June 28, and 624 grams of K-2 and $1,340 in cash were seized. Officer returned on July 25 and found 1,894 grams of K-2 and $20,300 in cash. Sammer Z. Kartoum, 32, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance.

— Glen Rock Liquor and Mini-Mart at 834 Glen Rock in Waukegan, where 1,457 grams of K-2 were seized, along with ,$5,520 in cash. Charges are pending against one person arrested at that location.

— 41 News, an adult book store at 41440 Rte. 41 in Wadsworth, where 1,065 grams of K-2 and $3,800 wer found. Charges are pending against two people in that raid.

— Gage's Lake Food & Liquor at 18495 W. Old Gages Lake Rd. in Gages Lake, where 900 grams of K-2, 10 grams of "Kush" K-2 in a safe, more than $4,000 in cash and hundreds of glass bowls, pipes and other drug paraphernalia were seized.

— Discount Tobacco at 816 E. Grand Ave. in Fox Lake, where 50 grams of K-2 and a 1998 Honda Accord were seized.
