Biggs: 'Marshall Is The Real Deal'

(WSCR) One of new general manager Phil Emery's first major moves with the Bears was to trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

One week into training camp, it looks as if Emery hit a home run.

"Marshall is the real deal," Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune told The Mully and Hanley Show. "There was one play (Sunday) during the individual drills where it was just a wide receiver against a cornerback with the quarterback throwing the ball. The wide receiver should win in that setting. There's no pass rushers, for starters. There's no safety help. There's no anything else. It's one-one-one. It's a drill designed for the wide receiver to win. In this case, Kelvin Hayden was covering Marshall and it was a route relatively down field. Hayden was all over him. It was textbook coverage from Kelvin Hayden. The throw from Jay Cutler was a little high, which is exactly where it had to be. At the last second, Marshall jumps up and grabs the ball. Hayden jumped up, couldn't get a hand on it. You could sense his frustration, but at the same time, I think you could sense Hayden's satisfaction, because he knew he had done everything he possible could. It was perfect coverage, and Marshall still makes what looked like a relatively easy catch for him.

"You watch this, and you say, 'When this translates to the game, this is going to be something that they just haven't had before. He's been terrific. Size-wise, he's bigger than Muhsin Muhammad was and he's way more athletic than Moose was, even at the height of his career when he was with the Carolina Panthers."

The 28-year-old Marshall caught 81 passes for 1,214 yards and six touchdowns last season with the Dolphins.

"You talk about a No. 1 wide receiver, and there are 10, 11 maybe 12 at the most in the National Football League," Biggs said. "The Bears have finally got one."
