Partly Sunny, Rising Heat And Isolated Rain For Afternoon

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Rain moved through the area Wednesday morning, but conditions are expected to be at least partly sunny for the afternoon as the heat returns to midsummer highs.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Ed Curran says as of 11:20 a.m., it was a comfortable 78 degrees at O'Hare International Airport, 77 at Midway Airport, and 80 at Kankakee. The wind was from the west at just 5 mph.

The high-pressure system that made Tuesday cool and beautiful is leaving the area, and hotter air is coming in. The heat could trigger an isolated thundershower Wednesday afternoon, as the high climbs to 86 with southwest winds of 5-10 mph.

The low drops to 63 overnight with a chance of showers, and on Thursday, the chance for thunderstorms ratchets up as a cold front comes in.

The high for Thursday is 83, but on Friday, the high falls to 72 after the cold front passes through. For the Air and Water Show this weekend, look for a pleasant and sunny 73 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday.

The high for Monday of next week is 76, Tuesday 82.
