UPDATED 08/16/12 - 5:30 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An autopsy Thursday confirmed an Englewood man was killed by at least one of his own pit bulls Wednesday night.

As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, a woman walked into her home in the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, only to find her husband – identified as Charles Hagerman, 44 – on the floor with their two pit bulls nearby.

The Chicago Tribune reports one of the dogs was still on top of Hagerman and biting his neck when his wife arrived home. Police say Hagerman was already dead at the time, and they are trying to determine whether one or both of the pit bulls attacked him.

Animal Care and Control personnel secured the dogs and removed them from the home.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says Hagerman was dead at the scene. An autopsy Thursday determined he died from multiple injuries from a dog attack. His death was ruled an accident.
