Updated 08/21/12 - 9:08 p.m.

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 15-year-old boy was killed in a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side on Tuesday afternoon.

Jaime Ruvalcaba, 15, was killed in the shooting in the same block as his home, in the 1900 block of West 47th Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The shooting happened at 4:22 p.m. and left the boy with gunshot wounds to his abdomen, groin and left arm, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

He was initially taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Police had no details Tuesday night on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

All 47th Street buses were rerouted for almost two hours because of police activity at the intersection where the shooting happened, according to a CTA alert.

As of about 7:45 p.m., area buses were back to their normal route.
