Woman Sexually Assaulted In Chatham

UPDATED 08/23/12 9:17 a.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man is being questioned by police about a sex attack that happened early this morning in the Chatham neighborhood.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, police the man was picked up shortly after a husband called 911 to report that his wife had been robbed and raped in the 200 block of East 87th Street.

Police say the 23-year-old victim was assaulted at gunpoint. She was taken to nearby Advocate Trinity Hospital.

A witness said there were no streetlights in the area at one point overnight.

The attack happened not too far from where a woman was raped last weekend as she waited for a bus near Abbott Park, about a mile south at Michigan Avenue and 95th Street.

Police are not saying whether the man in custody is also being questioned about the earlier attack, which happened between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday.
