Sunny Afternoon Coming As High Hits Low 90s

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The normal high for this date is 81 degrees, but the high Friday will be 10 degrees higher than that.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Ed Curran says as of 11:20 a.m., it was already 86 at O'Hare International Airport, 85 at Midway, and 87 at Waukegan and Kankakee. Winds were blowing in from the southwest at 12 mph, but the humidity was far from high enough to make conditions oppressive, at only 37 percent

Showers moved across the Midwest earlier, but remained to the north in Wisconsin. Some clouds may appear in the Chicago area from the system that brought the showers, but otherwise, skies will be sunny as the high climbs to 92 degrees.

Winds will be out of the south at 15 to 20 mph.

An air quality alert is in effect across the area, as ozone pollution levels are up.

Overnight, the low drops to 70 under partly cloudy skies and winds at 10 to 15 mph.

On Saturday, the high climbs to a steamy 93, before relief comes Sunday in the form of thunderstorms and cuts the high to 84.

On Monday, the high is 82 with a leftover shower expected. The high for Tuesday is 84, Wednesday 85, and Thursday 86.
