Neighbor Mary Noriega said there have been ongoing problems with both pit bulls on the block.

“Every time somebody goes by, they try to get out,” she said. “Everybody has a chance when they raise their dogs to raise them the right way, but some people won’t do that.”

When both dogs ran out of the yard together later Thursday morning, police shot and killed both animals.

An officer also suffered a leg injury. It was not immediately clear if he was bitten by one of the dogs, or wounded by a bullet.
