Person Found Dead In SW Side Fire Had Been Stabbed

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A person discovered dead by firefighters when a fire erupted Saturday at a Southwest Side home had been stabbed to death, officials said.

The official cause of death for the "young male" was multiple stab wounds and his death was ruled a homicide on Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Firefighters found the body after they were notified about 4:47 p.m. that a blaze erupted at a home located in the 4800 block of South Avers Avenue, Fire Media Affairs said.

The young man's body was found in a front room of the home, authorities said, adding that the person did not appear to be a child.

The person remained unidentified as of Sunday, the medical examiner's office said.
