Free Flu Shots For Cab Drivers At O'Hare

CHICAGO (CBS) -- From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, licensed cab drivers can get a free flu shot at O'Hare International Airport.

As WBBM Newsradio's Terry Keshner reports, officials are hoping the cabbies will drive someone to the airport, get a flu shot, and pick up another passenger.

"That's what we'd like them to do, and while they wait, because as you know, the waits in the cab line can become long, we're going to have coffee and food available and some education," said Kenneth Alexander, chief of pediatric and infectious diseases at the University of Chicago Medicine.

Alexander says many cab drivers don't have health insurance.

"In that business, if you miss a week of work because of the flu, you could be in real trouble," Alexander said. "So the theme of our program for the cab drivers is, can you afford to miss a week of work?"

The free shots will be given to cab drivers at Midway International Airport next week.
