One Teen Killed, One Hurt In South Shore Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in the head, and another was wounded Monday night in a gang-related shooting in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

They were standing on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of South Dorchester Avenue about 8:15 p.m. when two shooters walked up and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

A 17-year-old boy, Jonathan Williams, of the 7700 block of South Dante Avenue, was shot in the head and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m.

Another boy, also 17, was shot in the lower left leg, Alfaro said. He is listed in good condition at Jackson Park Hospital.

Police believe the shooting to be gang-related, Alfaro said. No one is in custody as of Monday night.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
