Five People Shot Overnight In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Five people--including two teenagers--were wounded in shootings from Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

Police said that two of the shootings that injured a total of four people were gang-related.

The latest shooting took place about 12:40 a.m. in the Bridgeview neighborhood, where a 55-year-old man was shot while inside his car near his home, police said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was originally taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

The motive for the shooting remained unclear Wednesday morning, police said.

About 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, two men were shot—one critically—while they stood in an alley in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.

The men were in the 4200 block of West Potomac Avenue when an unknown gunman approached them on foot and opened fire, Alfaro said.

A 30-year-old man was shot in the left side of his head and his stomach, Alfaro said, adding that the man was listed in critical condition.

The other man, who is 25 years old, was shot in the upper chest and listed in "stable" condition, Alfaro said. Both men were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Police said the two men were alleged gang members.

About 10 p.m., two teenagers were shot while they played basketball near a public elementary school in the Rogers Park neighborhood, police said.

The teens--ages 17 and 18--were shooting hoops in the 7600 block of North Marshfield Avenue near the Stephen F. Gale Math and Science Academy when a light colored sports-utility vehicle drove and shot were fired, police said.

The 17-year-old boy was shot in the left arm, Alfaro said, and the 18-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the buttocks.

Both teens were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where they were listed in good condition, Alfaro said.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, Alfaro said, though further details were not immediately available.

Police have made no arrests in any of the shootings as area detectives continue to investigate.
