GridIron Grub: Jalapeño Poppers

Home-made jalapeño poppers are easier to make than one would think. They are the perfect snack for any football game because they can be enjoyed at home or, if you make them in advance, you can bring them along to a tailgate. Depending on your crowd, you can choose to make these poppers super spicy or more mild with just a slight kick. This recipe is extremely fast and easy, only requires a few ingredients and makes 32 poppers. Football fans seem to never get full, so you can easily double this recipe if you'd like 64. Try this snack for yourself and see why no one can stop popping poppers all game long.

Jalapeño Poppers
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty Leve: Easy
Yield: 32 poppers

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces of cream cheese
  • 4 ounces of canned, diced jalapeños
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 8-ounce tube of refrigerated crescent rolls

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and dump six ounces of cream cheese into a bowl. Mix half of the jalapenos with the cream cheese, or more if you really want to heat things up.

Next, add the sugar and stir all of the ingredients together very well. Once mixed, taste to determine if you'd like to add more jalapeños.

Open the crescent rolls and divide into two rectangles, making sure both are smooth. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture on to one rectangle and the other half of the mixture on the other rectangle. Beginning with the long end of the roll, roll up the rectangles in to a log and cut into 16 pinwheels using a sharp knife. A good way to ensure you have 16 pinwheels out of each log is to first cut the log in half, then in half again, and so on.

After all pinwheels have been prepared, you can choose to refrigerate if you don't want to bake right away (perfect if you're trying to do some prep before of a big game). If baking right away, spray a cookie sheet with spray so they don't stick and place the pinwheels on the sheet with the cream cheese facing up. Bake for approximately 13 minutes. Once done, bake your second log of 16 pinwheels. Enjoy popping these poppers into your mouth all game long!
