(WSCR)  NBA commissioner David Stern will retire on Feb. 1, 2014, the league said Thursday.

Adam Silver will replace Stern after he was unanimously approved Thursday by the NBA Board of Governors.

“I could be not be happier sitting here to know I’ll be succeeded by Adam,” Stern said.

Stern’s retirement will come on the 30th anniversary of his appointment to the position (Feb. 1, 1984).
