Beavers' Tax Evasion Trial Delayed Again, Until March

CHICAGO (AP) -- A federal judge has set another new date for a Chicago politician's tax-evasion trial.

Cook County Commissioner William Beavers' trial was supposed to get under way this December. But Judge James Zagel agreed to push the trial back to January because defense attorney Victor Henderson fell ill with bronchitis.

In a new filing, Zagel says the trial will now start on March 11.

Henderson has appeared to recover and has been seen attending court representing clients in recent weeks.

The 77-year-old Beavers pleaded not guilty to diverting thousands of dollars from his campaign coffers for personal use without reporting it and then trying to cover it up.

He faces four tax-related counts. Each carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison.
