Volunteers Cook Holiday Dinner For The Less Fortunate

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Christmas Eve was a little more pleasant for some of the city's less fortunate residents last night.

Volunteers Cook Holiday Dinner For The Less Fortunate

With chicken on the griddle and cornbread in the oven, around 50 less fortunate people in Uptown ate well on Christmas Eve.

"It really make me appreciate how lucky we are to have food in our refrigerator that is always accessible," said Hannah May, a 17-year-old high school student, who is in her first year of volunteering at the Inspiration Café.

Kelvin Easterling says many of the people are simply down on their luck.

"It is very satisfying to be able to help someone in their time of need, especially during the holiday, just giving them a hot meal can sometimes boost their morale," said Easterling.
