SKOKIE (CBS) -- Skokie police have issued a community alert for a gunman suspected in several hair salon robberies.

Police believe the same man armed with a gun carrying a dark-colored shoulder bag with a scarf covering his face has carried out armed robberies in several suburbs, the most recent in Glen Ellyn Thursday morning where he entered a Great Clips demanding cash while holding a gun.
He is also suspected in armed robberies in Bensenville, Lombard and Niles. In Skokie, a similar robbery occurred at the Hair Cuttery on Skokie Boulevard.
"Typically what the offender does is he will select an item from the shelf and bring it to the register," said Skokie Police Officer Joe Marzigliano. "At that point then he brandishes a revolver and demands money from the clerk."
According to police, the suspect has been targeting hair salons in strip malls, committing robberies in the morning or late in the evening.
Police are investigating whether the same suspect may also be responsible for hair salon robberies in the Lincoln Park area this past Sunday.
