Rich East Teacher Fired For Sexual Relationship With Student

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 39-year-old teacher at Rich Township High School has been fired for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an 18-year old student.

The school board met in closed session last night before voting publicly to fire Rich East special education teacher Earl Rogers.

One board member called Rogers' alleged actions "disheartening" and "sickening."

Because the girl was 18, no criminal activity took place and no charges are being filed, police said.

He's the second Rich East teacher in two months to be accused of inappropriate contact with a student, and at least the fourth case in District 227 in less than five years involving such behavior by a teacher, the Southtown Star reported.
