Report: Mariners, Felix Hernandez Agree To $175 Million Deal

(CBS) - According to a report from the USA Today, the Mariners have agreed to a contract extension with ace Felix Hernandez that will make the right-hander the highest-paid pitcher in baseball's history.

Bob Nightengale reports the deal is worth $175 million over seven years.

The extension is expected to be finalized at some point before spring training.

Hernandez was scheduled to earn $19.5 million in 2013 and $20 million in 2014. His new contract will take effect this season and pay him a record average annual salary of $25 million through 2019.

The 26-year-old Hernandez, who made his Major League debut when he was just 19, is 98-76 through eight seasons with an ERA of 3.22. He won the AL CY Young Award in 2010.
