Crundwell Jewelry To Be Auctioned Off This Weekend

DIXON, Ill. (CBS) -- Jewelry from convicted former Dixon city comptroller Rita Crundwell's treasure trove will be going up for sale this weekend.

WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports the U.S. Marshals Service plans to auction off another 351 items from the loot bought with the $53.7 million Crundwell embezzled from the city while she was comptroller.

Last week, the 60 year old Crundwell was sentenced to more than 19 years in prison, after pleading guilty in federal court to a charge of wire fraud, for embezzling Dixon city funds over a 20-year period.

Among the jewelry being sold off on Saturday: a $25,000 Rolex watch, a jewel-encrusted pendant of SpongeBob SquarePants, and a bar of pure gold that has a starting price of nearly $1.5 million.

The auction will be conducted in Fort Worth, Texas, and online at txauction.com.
