1 Dead, 2 Injured After Vehicle Collides With Pole On SE Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- An East Side neighborhood woman was killed and two others were injured when the vehicle they were in careened out of control and struck a light pole in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, police said.

About 3:57 a.m. Wednesday, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed near East 88th Street and South Chicago Avenue when it lost control and crashed, fatally injuring the driver, police said.

Marsela Castillo, 26, of the 11100 block of South Avenue 0, was pronounced dead at Advocate Trinity Hospital at 4:20 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

A 27-year-old woman was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. A third woman, 22, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
