NILES, Ill. (STMW) — A car chase that started in southwest suburban Burbank and ended in a crash in north suburban Niles injured two people Thursday night, police said.

About 10 p.m., a stolen rental vehicle was tracked by the rental company and spotted by officers in the 100 block of West Huron Street on the Near North Side, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said, citing preliminary information.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle but it fled onto the Kennedy Expressway and got away, Alfaro said.

The vehicle was then tracked to the 7100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, where an officer tried to stop the vehicle and it crashed into a tree, Alfaro said.

Two people are in custody and were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, Alfaro said.

No charges have been filed as of early Friday.
