Man Dead, 4 Injured In Barrington Hills Crash

BARRINGTON HILLS, Ill. (STMW) -- A man is dead and four other people were injured Sunday afternoon in a four-vehicle accident in northwest suburban Barrington Hills.

A Chevrolet Suburban traveling north on Illinois Route 59 sideswiped a southbound Toyota about 3 p.m. just south of Illinois Route 68, according to a release from Barrington Hills police. The Suburban then struck a southbound Dodge Intrepid head-on and a Ford Escape was unable to avoid the accident and struck the rear of the Intrepid.

The driver of the Intrepid was killed in the crash. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified him as 61-year-old Ronald Ziolo.

A passenger in the Intrepid, a 44-year-old Florida woman, was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, police said. The driver of the Chevrolet, an 18-year-old Barrington Hills man, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. The driver and passenger of the Ford Escape, a 44-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man from Fox River Grove, were also both taken to Good Shepherd Hospital.

None of the four suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

Barrington Hills police are investigating the crash with the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County.
