Admirals Sink Wolves 4-3

MILWAUKEE -- Three third-period goals by the Milwaukee Admirals was enough to sink the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in an Amtrak Rivalry game Friday night at the Bradley Center.

Defenseman Mark Matheson and forwards Darren Archibald and Andrew Ebbett were Chicago's goal scorers.

When the Admirals and Wolves last met, on February 1, Chicago (28-19-4-3), jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. That wasn't the case on Friday, with Milwaukee (27-24-3-3) needing just 2:40 to light the lamp off a top shelf wrister from left wing Kevin Henderson.

The Wolves wouldn't need much time to pot an equalizer. Matheson redirected a point shot in front of Milwaukee netminder Jeremy Smith and found an opening down low to make it 1-1 at 9:47.

Headed into the second frame, the Wolves kept their momentum going when Archibald took a pass from left wing Bill Sweatt and rifled a one-timer past Smith at 2:01.

Smith (17-19-3) kicked out 26 shots.

With Chicago leading 2-1 heading into the third period, Milwaukee quickly knotted the score at two at the 43-second mark. Right wing Matt Halischuk stuffed a score past Wolves netminder Matt Climie to knot things up on the power play.

Halischuk scored his second of the night at 10:18 of the final frame when he placed a shot from the near circle under the cross bar and over the glove of Climie.

Admirals right wing Juuso Puustinen added the last piece of insurance, batting a puck over top of a sprawled out Climie at 14:52 to give them a 4-2 advantage.

Climie (16-16-2) blocked 36 of 40 shots.

Ebbett added a power-play marker at 19:30 as the Wolves were skating six-on-four with Climie on the bench but Chicago could not find the equalizer in the final 30 seconds.

Chicago and Milwaukee tangle in an Amtrak Rivalry rematch at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Allstate Arena.
