CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police announced today that a man has been charged in Friday's theft of eight school buses that were then demolished for scrap.

Sergio Quintero, 44, of the 2500 block of S. Drake has been charged with possession of title/ registration without assignment, a felony. The charge relates to school buses stolen from a location in the 10100 block of S. Torrence Ave. last Friday. Bond has been set at $25,000.

The owner of the buses says the stolen and destroyed buses represent a $250,000 loss for him. Gregory Bonnett says his buses were hot- wired, brought to the scrap yard and scrapped between 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday.

The bus company provides school buses for the Chicago Public Schools, but no kids were affected, as backup buses were used in place of the stolen vehicles.
