Man Killed In Wrong-Way Crash In Palos Township

PALOS TWP., Ill. (STMW) -- A 64-year-old southwest suburban man died early Tuesday in a wrong-way, two-vehicle crash, authorities said.

The Cook County Mmedical Examiner's office identified the victim as John Anagnopoulos, of the 15400 block of Sunset Ridge Drive in Orland Park.

Anagnopoulos was driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra in the northbound lanes when his car was hit head-on by a 2002 GMC Denali driven by a 19-year-old Burr Ridge man, Cook County Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.

The Denali was going the wrong way when it struck Anagnopoulos' vehicle in the 10500 block of South LaGrange Road just after 3 a.m., Ansari said.

Anagnopoulos was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to Advocate Christ, sheriff's office spokesman Frank Bilecki said. His condition was unknown.

No one else was in either vehicle.

Cook County Sheriff's police are investigating the crash, which closed northbound LaGrange Road for several hours between 107th and 95th streets. That stretch of the road has a concrete wall separating the northbound and southbound lanes.

Ansari said she had no information about whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
